Statement from AORN

  • Why was the 2021 Global Surgical Conference & Expo canceled?

AORN announced the cancellation of the conference on July 27 due to the rapid and dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases in Orange County, Florida, where the conference was going to be held.

The mayor of Orange County, Florida – where Orlando is located – declared on July 26 that his county was facing a COVID-19 “crisis” from the Delta variant. The positivity rate for the virus had tripled to almost 14% from about 4.3% one month ago and Florida had 20% of the nation’s reported cases.

Since the health and well-being of all attendees, presenters, exhibitors, and our own staff is our top priority, we believe this was the most prudent decision to make during a health crisis in the Orlando area.

  • Is the cancellation of the event due to exhibitors’ and attendees’ cancellations?

AORN had every intention of presenting the Global Surgical Conference & Expo and had communicated that intention as recently as last week. It was the sudden spike in cases, including reported cases of vaccinated individuals, that reversed our decision.

  • Will the conference be presented in a Virtual format?

We are working to expand our pre-planned Virtual Expo to include many of the sessions that were exclusively planned for the in-person conference. We will make details available as soon as we have them.

  • Are you refunding registration fees?

We are encouraging attendees to attend Virtual Expo to receive the same valuable education, with contact hours, and numerous opportunities to reconnect with industry representatives and your peers from across the country. More details on the virtual event and refund options will be communicated by August 3.

  • Will hotel reservations be canceled?

If you booked through AORN’s housing partner, MCI | USA, your hotel reservation for AORN Expo 2021 has been canceled and a full refund of your one-night deposit will be processed. Please do not contact the hotel directly, MCI is managing the cancellation and refund process. If your original form of payment is unable to receive the refund, please contact [email protected]. If you booked outside the AORN block, you should contact the hotel directly.

Nurse Attendees: Your hotel reservation for AORN Expo 2021 will be canceled and a full refund of your one-night deposit will be processed. AORN will provide additional details on when to expect your refund by August 3.

Exhibitors: Your hotel reservation for AORN Expo 2021 will be canceled.
